Joe’s Ford owner & buyer help center

Good help should continue after the handshake.

Plain-language Ford technology and service help, plus a realistic road map for buying day—built for first-time users, longtime owners, and everyone in between.

A calmer buying day

Know the order. Leave room for the variables.

Every visit is different. Vehicle readiness, lender response, proof of insurance, title work, final documents, and vehicle preparation can affect timing. Joe can give you a better current estimate after confirming what your visit involves.

Confirm the plan

Joe confirms the exact vehicle, what matters to you, and what still needs a live check. Bring a valid license and ask Joe which documents your situation requires.

02Take your time

Walkaround & test drive

Set the seat and mirrors, try the roads you actually use, test visibility and parking, and ask about the controls you will use every day.

03Verify the vehicle

Confirm the current details

Joe rechecks availability, Howell location, equipment, condition, and what is ready for review. Rely on the current vehicle and the applicable written documents.

04Compare paths

Choose a financing path

Compare your bank or credit-union option with any dealer-arranged option you request. Lender response time and requested documents vary.

05Read before signing

Review every document

Read the purchase figures, lender terms, Buyers Guide, and any optional protection contract. Ask questions and rely on the final written documents.

06Before you leave

Vehicle pickup & technology setup

Confirm keys and paperwork, pair your phone, set up supported Ford app features, and leave knowing who to call if a question comes up.

Buying a new Ford

Confirm the exact vehicle and current programs.

  • Verify the VIN, trim, equipment, location, and availability.
  • Confirm current incentives and transaction-specific eligibility.
  • Test the features that matter and compare purchase, lease, and financing paths that apply.
  • Review the window sticker, written figures, warranty, and any optional products before deciding.
  • Before leaving, set up keys, the supported Ford app, and phone connection.

Buying a used vehicle

Make the answer VIN-specific.

  • Verify the VIN, stock number, mileage, equipment, location, and current availability.
  • Review the vehicle-history report, FTC Buyers Guide, recall status, and current written warranty or “as is” terms.
  • Confirm whether any Ford certification applies to that exact vehicle; never assume from the make or model.
  • Allow time for a careful walkaround and test drive, and discuss any inspection request through the current store process.
  • Put every repair, accessory, or follow-up commitment in the approved written documents.

Your bank or dealer-arranged financing

Compare the paths; choose the one that fits.

Already approved through a bank or credit union? Bring its preapproval and lender instructions. If that lender participates in the dealership’s indirect-lending network, F&I may be able to complete its financing at the dealership. If not, the lender may use a different funding process.

  • Compare APR, term, amount financed, finance charge, payment, and total cost—not payment alone.
  • A preapproval is not final funding; the lender and F&I must confirm the transaction-specific terms.
  • No specific bank, approval, rate, or timing is promised until the lender’s final written decision.

Warranty & service-contract decisions

Think about the risk—not the pitch.

When a vehicle comes with warranty coverage, that coverage is included rather than sold as a separate product. An optional service contract costs extra and is not the same thing. It can make some covered repair costs more predictable as mileage and vehicle technology increase, but it is not automatically right for everyone.

  • Check for overlap with remaining warranty or CPO coverage.
  • Read covered parts, exclusions, deductible, term, mileage, repair-location rules, and claim authorization.
  • Ask about towing/rental benefits, transfer, cancellation, and refund terms.
  • Use the actual written contract for price and coverage.

Before you leave home

Bring what applies. Confirm the exact list with Joe.

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Insurance information for vehicle pickup
  • Outside-lender instructions, if applicable
  • A short list of questions you want answered before signing

Use only the dealership or lender’s approved secure process for sensitive information. Never upload or send a license image, Social Security number, insurance card, bank information, pay stub, or credit document through Joe’s personal site, ordinary text, social media, or email.

What this guide can—and cannot—do.

This page offers general educational information. It cannot diagnose a vehicle, confirm coverage, promise a repair, determine a lending decision, or replace the exact owner's manual, maintenance schedule, Buyers Guide, warranty or service contract, lender documents, or final written dealership documents.

For appointment availability, diagnosis, price, parts, recall status, coverage, vehicle condition, or required work, ask the appropriate Bob Maxey Ford of Howell department to verify the exact vehicle and current details.
